Snoring Cow

21st May 2024

Today I took Elisa shopping to buy some bedding graced by the two Frozen princesses and a bath towel (Barbie). I added a pair of slippers. These items were for her to keep here for when she stays overnight.

She was finding it hard to decide which ones she wanted, so she suggested I buy two pairs. I told her that I didn’t have enough money to pay for more than one pair.

She thought for a moment then said: “I’ve had an idea! I know how you could get more money. You could open a shop!”.

She was nonplussed when I asked her what I could sell. Then I suggested I sell my knitted and crocheted dolls. She beamed with relief. “Yes!”.

Then I pointed out to her that it would be too expensive to rent a shop, so we put the idea on ice.

Later, she told her Opa about her idea and then explained to him, in a wise and worldly manner, that it couldn’t work because the rents are just too high.

When Elisa wakes up in the morning (at my house) she says: “Anne- Cleear, I believe it is sun!”.

This morning, after making her usual announcement, she turned to me and said:

“Anne-Cleear, you snore like a cow!”

Anyone know what a snoring cow sounds like? I’d be interested to know.

About Me

I’m Anne-Claire, born and raised in England, resident in Germany for over thirty years. Until recently I was self-employed, teaching and translating English and German. I have three adult sons, currently scattered around the globe. None of them are in any hurry to have children, so I was very lucky to meet “Elisa”, five years ago, when she was hardly a year old. I later met her grandfather – “Opa” – with whom I happily live in sin.

As both Elisa’s grandmothers live abroad, I am fortunate enough to have morphed into the role of ersatz “Oma”. She has always called me by my name, and that suits me just fine. As you will see from my posts, a wonderful friendship has developed between us over the years. This is why I refer to her as my “Mini-Bestie”, because I truly feel that she is one of my closest friends.
